How do you give a CHINESE DWARF HAMSTER a bath? do need a special soap?

I have just gotten a pair of female CHINESE DWARF HAMSTERS from petsmart and i have been taking them around the house. my dad asked me do i give them a bath, they clean themselves but will stink sooner or later. How do you give a CHINESE DWARF HAMSTER a bath? do need a special soap?
NO !!!!! Don't give your dwarf hamster a bath !

They really don't like water ! Thay can get a disease called wet tail, and they can die !!!! They hate water, except to drink, and they wash themselves like a cat, so no need to give them a bath !

Dwarf hamsters need a special dust bath, to keep their fur shiny and get rid of their smell. You can get it at PJ's pet shop for like 6 dollars...Put it in a little container inside of his cage. You don't have to show him what to do, it's in his instincts! He will know that he has to roll around in it ! Plus, it's soooo cute !

If you're worried about the smell, all you have to do is open your window every day for a about an hour, but make sure your hamster is in a different room when you're doing that, because he's not supposed to be close to air conditionning...How do you give a CHINESE DWARF HAMSTER a bath? do need a special soap?
What is with this neo-obstetric approach to pet care? Water is hardly a serious health hazard as far as your pet hamster is concerned. My Roborovski hamsters have submitted to a couple baths without incident and jumped or fallen into water while exploring my apartment: they are effective swimmers.

they will only stink if the cage stinks so i would clean the cage really good and if that doesn't work use chinchilla sand for them to roll around it them!! IT should take the smell away!! Good luck!!!!1
hamster, mice, and gerbils as with many rodents are constantly grooming themselves, giving them a bath isnt necassary
Chinchilla dust bath, in the wild they roll in dust to keep their coat healty!

You can also buy a small dustbath holder, www.petsmart.com

It's called Small Critter Dust Bath Powder, and in that area there should be a small ceramic caraff to put it in!

Your hammy will know what do!!!
they don't need baths, they will clean themselves. just make sure to keep thier cage clean! if you absolutely HAVE to give them a bath, just take a washcloth and get a corner of it barely wet with lukewarm water. rub it gently over them, but don't get them soaked, or even damp.
i know ur not suppose to bathe hamsters. only bathe them when necessary. and if you do. make sure their heads don't get wet. the water should be warm. u can purchase baby shampoo and use that. make sure they are completely dry before placing them back into the cage. just wrap them in a towel for about 10 minutes or so. have fun and make sure you don't bathe them often for they will catch a cold. colds are bad for hammies.
hamsters generally clean themselves. if you want to put them in a shallow bowl of water and see what happens, i suppose it would be fine.
You should never give hamsters a bath! They clean themselves but if they do start to stink, what you have to do is wipe them down with a baby wipe.
You don't actually need to bathe them. In the wild, hamsters developed a habit of cleaning themselves. The only thing that you should do is make sure their cage gets cleaned out every now and then.

If your Dad insists though, just moist a sponge and brush it over their fur. Don't place them in an actual bowl because they might drown.
they are very small i have one sooo ask a pet store near u
nope, id use a high quality bedding ( not cedar or even pine shavings) I used Carefresh in a tank with a momma ham and thirteen babies and there was no smell, I would simply do that ( use about a 1/2 inch of bedding allover and buy him some bed fluff or give him a couple of tissues to shred. ) my hamsters had 1/2 inch of bedding, nesting materials and a box. If dad still says they stink once a week spray the cage ( not him) with 1/2 vinager and 1/2 water mix in a spray bottle , then soak the cage in the tub ( or if its glass fill it and rinse it out) when it dries put him back in... the vinager neuteralizes the odors.
Well, i have had hampsters all my life, and you can't CAN'T give a hampster a bath!!!! It will itch and if it starts to clean itself, it will eat the soap and die.I learned from experience:(

And also hampster can't swim, they hate water unless its for drinking.
If you give a hamster a bath they could drown or get sick and die.Hamsters are naturally clean animals, and may stink if you don't clean their cage for a long time and the sleep in their pee and poo.Although it is ok to wipe them with a wet paper towel, but be sure to dry them well and keep them away from drafts until fully dried. Please listen to me and don't give them a bath!I promise you its a bad idea, and it could kill your little baby darlings!
Uh, don't bathe hamsters. They naturally take care of that on their own. Just make sure their cages are clean.
NO NO NO!!!! How many times do people have tell other people on the yahoo forum that water will kill your hamsters!!

They are desert animals and contact with water will be fatal. Anyone who tells you any different should not be allowed to own pets.

Hamsters cages will smell if not scrubbed clean weekly, but a hamster itself will not smell. They are very clean animals that wash themselves.
